M.A. Mia Kankimäki (b. 1971) has worked at various publishing houses as an ad and copy editor. Japanese culture has been a hobby of hers for years, and she graduated as a teacher from the Sogetsu Ikebana school.
Her research project on Sei Shōnagon led her not only to Japan, but also to her parents’ attic in Vihti, Finland, to the British Library in London, to Thailand to flee the ravages of a tsunami, and in the end to Normandy to write.
